Meera jasmine biography


Born on February 15, 1982 to to Joseph and Aleyamma in Thiruvalla in Kerala, Meera Jasmine was originally named Jasmine Mary Joseph. After completing high school in the year 2000 she enrolled for a Bsc degree in Zoology at the Assumption College in Changancherry. She was spotted by the film director Blessy and approached her with the lead role in ‘Soothradharan’.

Meera Jasmine made her cinematic debut in Malayalam films and soon plunged into Tamil and Telugu film industry. Her first film was A. K. Lohithadas’s Malayalam film ‘Soothradharan’ opposite Dileep. For her very first attempt at acting, Meera Jasmine received the Bharathan Award for Best Female Debut Actress. She was next seen in Tamil films ‘Run’ opposite R. Madhavan and ‘Bala’ alongside Shaam, Raghuvaran, Thilakan, Nagesh, Rajan P. Dev and Karunas. Meera Jasmine won the Filmfare Best Female Debut (Tamil) and Dinakaran Award for Best Female Debut Actress for ‘Run’.



The year 2003 proved to be extremely eventful for Meera Jasmine when she appeared in two pathbreaking Malayalam films Lohithadas’s ‘Kasthooriman’ opposite Kunchako Boban and TV CHandran’s ‘Padam Onnu: Oru Vilapam’. Meera Jasmine’s performance won accolades and she was honored with Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Malayalam) for ‘Kasthoorimann’ and Best Actress award at National Film Awards, Kerala State Film Awards, Asianet Film Awards and many other presitigious events for the critically acclaimed ‘Paadam Onnu: Oru Vilapam’.

Meera’s next exemplary performance was seen in the character of Raziya in Kamal’s ‘Perumazhakkalam’ alongside Kavya Madhavan. The film earned huge acclaim and was remade into Hindi titled ‘Dor’. Directed by Nahesh Kukunoor, the equally successful ‘Dor’ starred Ayesha Takia, Gul Panag and Shreyas Talpade. Meera Jasmine won Asianet Film Best Actress Award, Vanitha Best Actress Award, Mathrubhumi Film Best Actress Award and Tikkurishi Award for Best Actress for her pioneering performance in ‘Perumazhakkalam’.

Meera Jasmine starred in the lead role in Sathyan Anthikkad’s Malayalam film ‘Achuvinte Amma’ also featuring Narain, Urvashi, Innocent and Oduvil Unnikrishnan. The film depicted the mother- daughter relationship in the subtlest way possible. The film became a mega success and Meera won the Filmfare Award, Asianet Best Actress Award and Amrita Film Fraternity Award for Best Actress , while Urvashi received the coveted National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress .

Meera Jasmine worked alongside superstars like Mohanlal in Sathyan Anthikkad’s ‘Rasathanthram’, Dileep in Sathyan Anthikkad’s ‘Vinodaythra’ and Shyamaprasad’s critically acclaimed ‘Ore Kadal’. ‘Ore Kadal’ was honored at several award ceremonies and film festivals including National Film Awards, Kerala State Awards, IFFI Indian Paranoma, Dubai Amma Awards, IFFK 2007 Awards, Asianet Film Award 2007, Film Critics Award 2007, Vanitha Film Award 2007, Sify Award 2007 among several others.
