The Mackey Gallery, designed and constructed by Numen Development LP prior to John’s formation of Moduluxe LLC was an extremely quick-build solution to a construction challenge: The owner needed a commercial gallery space and had a site in mind that was an ideal location, but which she did not own. The resulting building was constructed in a modular and panelized fashion that allows it to be disassembled, relocated and re-assembled with a minimum of waste.
Constructed from 3 shipping-container-based modules, it was designed, permitted and constructed by within 4 months on a shoestring budget. The resulting gallery is a 1400 sf structure including an office with private bath & shower, a storage area, library, video installation module, and a 24 x 24 gallery space, as well as a gated courtyard. The parking area is a permeable paving system that can also be removed and relocated along with the building.
The shipping container modules were prefabricated in a shop environment with electrical, plumbing and HVAC in place, and the remaining structure was panelized and delivered on site for a very rapid assembly time. The timeline from groundbreaking to occupancy was a remarkable 54 days; Its quick dry-in time allowed this aggressive schedule despite 39 of those days having substantial rainfall!
